Noida authority set to cancel allotment of nine industrial plots

The Noida authority has moved to cancel the allotment of nine industrial plots after a recent survey found that the owners had not complied with the development rules attached to the land. According to officials, these plots were given to companies on the condition that they must build a functional industrial unit within the stipulated time of seven years. The survey on January 6 found that these plots were lying unused and empty, which goes against the lease conditions.

The authority’s chief executive officer, Lokesh M, said the process to cancel the allotment has already been initiated because the tenants failed to fulfil the norms mentioned in their lease deeds. Earlier there were notices which had been issued and warnings given to the plot owners but those did not lead to compliance, he added.

Officials also noted that beyond the nine unused plots, there were another 11 plots where construction had started but the units were not yet functional. In addition, three other plots have already had their allotments cancelled because of similar violations found in records. In at least one case, action on a cancelled plot is on hold due to a pending court case.

This step comes as part of the authority’s big effort to make sure that industrial land given in Noida is put to its intended use and does not remain idle or vacant. Under these rules, if allotted industrial plots are not developed and made operational within the given time then the authority has the power to take back the land and re-allot it to others who can put it to use.

Authority officials also said that such actions are meant to give importance for timely construction and utilisation of industrial land, especially as Noida continues to push for investment and development in the manufacturing sector.
